Wooden nests can, depending on the species you introduce, mimic the ants natural habitat in a way that no other nest-types can. This is because they are made out of the ant species' natural nesting material, giving you a unique look into natural behaviours. Sometimes only observable in Wooden nests.

Wooden nests do not have a hydration chamber, since the wood would mould and rot if moist. This means that you as their keeper, have to offer adequate water sources in their outworld. This is usually not a problem, but something to keep in mind.

The types of ants best suitable for Wooden nests are the ones living in wood in the wild. Other types of ants can in special cases be housed in Wooden nests depending on the exact species, but should generally be avoided.

The nest suitable for your exact colony and species depends on the nests size and chamber size. A larger nest can house a larger colony, and a nest with larger chambers can house larger species.

NOTE: Wooden nests are not considered “beginner friendly” nests, as they require knowledge of ant behaviour for the species that you are planning to introduce.
